His research activities focus on developing technologies for computational study of fluid
dynamics and heat transfer relating to turbine and compressor, as well as investigations of
unsteady flow phenomena of secondary flows or rotor-stator interactions. The vast majority of
computational research in this field has been performed on axial configurations for both
compressors and turbines. And advanced experimental technology is developed in his research.
The flow structure within the compressor and turbine system is widely investigated with the
PIV, PDA and PSP system and the main goal of the work is quantified the three major aspects: (1)
boundary conditions in terms of flow distortion, (2) velocity profile close to the blade and (3)
flow field response in terms of components design.

Another subject of his research is optimum design of turbomachinery. During the design
process of turbomachinery components, multi-design points and multi-constraints have to be
guaranteed with respect to components optimum. This requires the determination of relation
between geometrical design and fluid dynamic characteristic. By means of global optimization
referred to genetic algorithms with hierarchical fair competition, his research is focused on how
to understand velocity profile in flow passage obtained from CFD and experiment, and make
aerodynamic design match industrial demands.
