The SEEEP High-Level PhD Summer School is implemented under the framework of the China-EU Engineering Education Consortium and China-EU Sustainable Engineering Doctoral School, and it is one of the programs of the 2024 SJTU Graduate International Summer School. It is jointly organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and is held annually for two weeks alternately in China and Europe.

This year’s theme of the Summer School is “Energy system transformation: the impact of electrification”. The two-week program took place at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). This project aims to explore issues related to energy system transformation under the new situation, cultivate PhD students' ability of systematic research design and expression, and promote exchanges between different disciplines. During the event, renowned professors, experts, scholars and PhD students from China and Europe in the field of energy discussed reasonable and feasible solutions to major challenges facing the sustainable development of society, such as energy system transformation, from the perspectives of fossil energy replacement and emission reduction technologies, smart grid, and new energy storage technologies.

Twenty-nine PhD students from more than a dozen universities in China and Europe were divided into five groups with diverse backgrounds, and the students learned through a combination of academic reports, exchanges and discussions, and technical visits. By studying and exploring issues such as electrification of transportation and industrial process, carbon capture, hydrogen storage, smart grid, etc., the students have developed their ability of interdisciplinary communication and cross-cultural cooperation, formed research ideas on corresponding topics and successfully completed the presentation of the group report within two weeks.

In addition, the Dutch Embassy in Sweden held a special reception for the students, which also enhanced the precious friendship between teachers, students and students in China and Europe. At the same time, Embassy of The People's Republic of China in The Kingdom of Sweden also attaches great importance to this summer school. Mr. Huang Liqiong, Education Counselor of the Embassy, is very concerned about the students' study and life abroad. He had a cordial conversation with the students, and had in-depth exchanges with them on the local culture and life characteristics of Sweden. The student representatives of Shanghai Jiao Tong University also shared their learning harvest in the conversation, and the atmosphere was warm and harmonious.
