Biography
Dr.Wing Chung Tsoi is a senior research officer at the SPECIFIC photovoltaic (PV) team (chaired by Prof. James Durrant from Imperial College London) at Swansea University (UK). He is currently leading a group with particular focus on developing advanced characterization for organic and perovskite PV cells, and investigating emerging/new applications of organic and perovskite PV cells.Dr.Tsoi’s current research includes developing new/advanced Raman-based techniques, understand and improve stability of organic and perovskite PV, optimize performance of organic and perovskite PV for indoor, power generation window and aviation applications. He has particularly expertise in new/advanced characterization techniques to understand structure-property-performance relationship of printable SCs, particularly world-leading in Raman spectroscopy for organic and perovskite PV. Dr Tsoi is also leading the area of organic PV for indoor applications (achieved highest power conversion efficiency). He has published 45 papers.
Dr.Tsoi obtained his PhD in 2007 at Hull University, UK (developed a novel type of organic solar cell concept [1]), followed by 2 years’ postdoctoral research at Sheffield University (with Prof. David Lidzey) on an EU project on organic semiconductors for new ultra-fast optical switch application (observed beta-phase in oligomers [2]). After that, he spent nearly 6 years at Imperial College with Prof. Ji-Seon Kim, Prof. Jenny Nelson and Prof. Donal Bradley on advanced characterization [3-5] and fabrication of organic solar cells, with close collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory. In late 2014, he took his current position and has been developing a new PV group which now consist with 1 MSc student, 2 PhD students, 4 postdoctoral researchers, and 1 research fellow (within the big PV team at SPECIFIC).

Abstract
In this talk, I will first give a brief introduction to the photovoltaic (PV) team at SPECIFIC, Swansea University. After that, advanced Raman techniques to characterize stability (and homogeneity) of organic and perovskite solar cells will be introduced [1,2]. Then, fullerene degradations including effect of aggregation [3], and its contribution to degradation of organic solar cells will be explained [4], followed by dark bias effect [5] and interlayer effect [6] to perovskite PV degradation and efficiency. Finally, several emerging/new applications including organic PV for indoor, [7] semi-transparent, aviation/space [8] applications will be discussed. The aim of this talk is to update the latest development (2017-18) of the PV team (focus on my group), and foster collaborations.
